Nightguards

Do you notice that you are grinding or clenching your teeth? Do you feel pain in your jaw when you wake up from a nights rest? You may be dealing with bruxism, which is a habit of grinding or clenching your teeth that can cause gum recession, tooth wear, or sensitivity. According to the American Dental Association, “Many people are unaware that they grind their teeth…Bruxism often occurs in the early part of the night.”

If you believe that you may be grinding or clenching your teeth frequently, your dentists can help you by creating a custom-fitted night guard. Custom-fitted night guards are designed with you in mind. First, your doctor will exam your mouth to confirm your bruxism. Once your case of bruxism is confirmed, your dentist will take an impression of your teeth. From the model of your teeth, a night guard is molded and created.

Your night guard will provide you with a great deal of relief, support, and comfort from your daily grinding or clenching.

Once you have your night guard you must wear it every night and care for it properly by:

  • Keeping it moist
  • Brushing it with toothpaste every morning
  • Storing it in your case with fresh water during the day
  • At least once a week, using a denture cleaning tablet such as Efferdent during the daily soak
  • And if traveling, wrapping your night guard in a wet paper towel to avoid spillage and maintain it moisture.

You are one step closer to bruxism relief.
